COVID-19 Update

Please plan to attend your appointment, procedure or surgery as scheduled unless you are otherwise notified. During the pandemic, the hospital may be required to prioritize emergency and urgent cases, which may result in a change to your appointment. If this is the case, you will be contacted by a member of your care team. As always, our goal is to continue serving our community by providing quality hospital services for as long as it is safe and appropriate to do so during the pandemic.

What this program is...

The Hamilton Regional Eye Institute (also known as the Hamilton Eye Clinic) provides healthcare services to adults with eye disorders in the greater Hamilton area, including Niagara and Brantford.

How this program helps...

It is our mission to promote clinical advances in the investigation, treatment and prevention of visual disorders.

Your Care Team

A skilled team of Ophthalmic technicians uses state of the art equipment to investigate and prepare patients for assessment.

Clerical staff provides support to register patients and answer any questions or concerns.

Physicians with expertise in the medical and surgical management of: cornea, ocular cancer, glaucoma, occuloplastics, neuro-ophthalmology and retinal care.

Referral Process

Referrals are booked through a physicians’ office. All new patient appointments must be made by a referring doctor.

Preparing for Your Visit

  • Bring a current list of medications you are taking.
  • Arrange for a driver if you are receiving eye drops.
  • Bring money for parking.
  • Plan to be at the Eye clinic approximately 2 hours. (Please see the informational links below for details regarding specific tests performed).

We ask that you do not bring any valuables with you as the hospital cannot be responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

We are located through the front doors of the Ambulatory Centre to the left.

Registration Procedures

When you come to the Eye Clinic we ask you to take a number from the Q-matic machine.  Once you have a number, take a seat and you will be called according to physician rather than numerical order.

After Your Visit

The physician you see will provide you with detailed discharge information including homecare instructions.
