Dr. Deborah Cook named to an international ranking of best female scientists
Dr. Deborah Cook, critical care physician and researcher, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, has been named Canada’s top female scientist and 17th worldwide of 1,000 researchers listed by Research.com.
Dr. Cook, a Distinguished University Professor of medicine, has received many accolades for her ground-breaking research in the treatment of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). The most recent was the prestigious 2022 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award.
Dr. Cook is a McMaster alumna and a critical care physician of more than 30 years at St. Joseph’s Healthcare. She pioneered improvements in ICU patient management that has both reduced the risk of complications and enhanced end-of-life care for those with fatal conditions.
Dr. Cook is one of 31 Canadian female researchers that made Research.com’s list.
