The Future is Now
Every February, people in Canada are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities.
The 2021 theme for Black History Month is: "The Future is Now".
Anti-Black racism cannot be tolerated. Nor can prejudice and discrimination of any kind. It is time for all of us to stand together to create change. The Future is Now. We are committed to doing better, and to make progress on building an inclusive, equitable and fair healthcare system and community.
It is our collective responsibility to take the next steps. We are proud to announce the members of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council who will create a strategy to support our people, physicians, patients and families. The intent of the Council and consultations is to examine St. Joe’s in what some will find an uncomfortable light, to hold difficult conversations, to validate and to act where needed.

With this year’s theme - The Future is Now - St. Joe’s asked the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council co-chair, Kosu Boudreau to reflect on what kind of action is needed to shape our history for the future.
“This last year has been a tough one for all of us. We have witnessed the devastating impact of racial and social inequities. Black History Month offers us the opportunity to reflect on our past and galvanize for the future. I am grateful to be part of this important EDI initiative at St. Joe’s.”
