Monthly feature: Addiction Medicine Services and Hemodialysis Team (Charlton Campus), 2019 Mission Legacy Award winners
Late November we celebrated the 2019 Mission Legacy Award ceremony at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. The Mission Legacy Award recognizes key individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to contribute to the legacy and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, St. Joseph's Health System, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and its Foundation.
Each month we will feature a few of the award recipients to share a bit more about how they have made meaningful contributions throughout their time with our health care organization.
This month we feature our Hemodialysis Team from Charlton Campus at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.
Inpatient Addiction Medicine Services The physicians who comprise the Inpatient Addiction Medicine Service (IAMS) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare demonstrate exceptional compassion and provide care without judgement. They are fierce advocates who consider the needs of their patients, specifically those who are homeless, marginalized and have complex health problems from injection drug use. The very nature of their work is an extension of the care started more than a century ago by our founding Sisters, and deserving of this recognition. |

Hemodialysis Staff in the Charlton Hemodialysis Unit have collectively created a supportive environment for one of St. Joseph’s most vulnerable patient populations. This multi-disciplinary team is often viewed as extended family to the patients they see so regularly. Learning the idiosyncrasies that bring comfort to ones needing this life sustaining treatment is a skill born of true teamwork, and one that is worthy of this recognition. |
In 2019, the following thirteen groups / individuals were awarded:
Ms. Caterina D’Orazio, Ms. Winnie Doyle, Ms. Elizabeth Giacinti, Dr. Alistair Ingram, Ms. Bernice King, Dr. Zahira Khalid, Mr. Rick Martin, Mr. Joe McKillop, Mr. Sonny Monzavi, Mr. John O’Neill, Mr. John Scozzari, Addiction Medicine Service and the Hemodialysis Team (Charlton Campus).
A sincere thank you to each of the past and present award recipients, their hard work and dedication to our organization and the patients we serve is truly appreciated by our staff, patients and families.
