Dr. Kevin Smith named new President and CEO at University Health Network
Dr. Kevin Smith will be stepping down as President & CEO, SJHS and Niagara Health (NH) effective May 21, 2018, after 23 years of distinguished service with St. Joseph's Health System, and seven years with Niagara Health.
Dr. Smith has accepted the position of President and CEO, University Health Network. The annoucement, made by Mr. Brian Porter, Chair of the Board of Trustees at UHN, praised the many contributions to healthcare — provincially and nationally — made by Dr. Smith.
“He has a long and distinguished career in Ontario’s healthcare system and currently is responsible for an academic health organization which spans the continuum of care. Given the breadth of services at UHN and our ambitions to work more closely with partners in the community, I am very pleased that he has agreed to take the helm at UHN,” Mr. Porter said.
At St. Joseph's Health System, Sister Anne Anderson said the move is "bittersweet."
"Kevin's focus has always been meeting the needs of patients and their families, enhancing the quality of work life for providers, and academic excellence. He departs our organizations with our gratitude and appreciation for his commitment and dedication and leaves us in an enviable position that will allow us to continue our missions and evolve our legacies," Sister Anne said.
