Diagnostic Services

Diagnostic Services at St. Joseph's West 5th Campus is now open and fully accessible to the public. Services available at the West 5th Campus include MRI, Ultrasound, Diagnostic Radiology, ECG, EEG and EMG.

What this program does...

The Diagnostic Imaging program at the King Campus provides regular services, such as general radiography, X-Rays and ultrasounds (ultrasound by appointment only) for outpatients between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Diagnostic Imaging program at West 5th Campus provides X-Rays for outpatients on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 08:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The West 5th Campus now offers Ultrasound Services for outpatients Monday - Friday from 08:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The West 5th Campus now offers EEG and EMG tests for outpatients Monday - to Friday from 07:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Our Urgent Care Clinic hours are from 8:00 am - 10:00 pm Monday to Sunday. Diagnostic services are also provided to Urgent Care patients on weekends and holidays.

We can provide diagnostic imaging for your patients – without the long waitlist. Some programs booking appointments in as little as one week! See below for more details on services and how to make referrals.

Obstetrical and Gynecology Ultrasound Services – Booking appointments in as little as one week

Book your patients for:

  • Pelvic ultrasound
  • Anatomy scans
  • High risk pregnancy
  • EFTS- Limited high-risk pregnancy

*Urgent appointments available upon request

Echocardiogram services available at both West 5th and Charlton campuses – Appointments available within two weeks

Physician referrals can be faxed to 905-521-6086. This clinic currently does not take referrals from Ocean

Mammography Services available at King Campus – Appointments available within one month

Patients fifty years and older can self-refer to the OBSP program without a physician’s referral at 905-573-4849.

All diagnostic appointments must be physician referred by fax to 905-573-4847 or requested through the Oceans platform.

General Radiography Services available for walk-in appointments at all three campuses – Same-day appointments

Your patients can walk-in at any of our three campuses. No appointment necessary.

                  100 West 5th – Level 0, Diagnostic Services

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Charlton location open evenings and weekends, but wait times may increase due to reduced staffing during these times.

Referral Process

Diagnostic services are performed upon the request of an authorized practitioner.

All referrals need to be faxed to (905) 381.5646 

Correct completion of the standard requisition is necessary to initiate the appointment. All incomplete requisitions will be faxed back to the healthcare provider.

Preparing for Your Visit

Brochures for ultrasound procedures can be found at the following website as well as helpful information and a complete list of our radiologists at both the Charlton and King Campus sites of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

We ask that you do not bring any valuables with you as the hospital cannot be responsible for lost or stolen personal items. 

Beginning in 2024, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Hamilton Health Sciences are no longer using lead aprons/shields on patients undergoing X-rays. This change reflects scientific advancements in X-ray technology and healthcare safety. Learn more here.

Diagnostic Services is located on Level 1 next to Urgent Care.

From the front entrance take the stairs or elevator down to Level 1, turn right and follow the corridor to the Xray/Ultrasound sign and check in at reception desk.

West 5th Campus - Diagnostic Services which include Ultrasound, MRI, Neurology Diagnostics, and General Radiology (x-ray) 

Diagnostic Services is located beside the Outpatient Entrance on Level 0 in Block B.

From the Outpatient Entrance, Diagnostic Services is located on your right hand side. From the Main Entrance, take the elevator to level 0. Diagnostic services are straight ahead.

Registration Procedures

Diagnostic Services: Please take a ticket from the automated number dispenser located on the wall outside the reception area and take a seat in the waiting area for your number to be called

Please bring your Health Card with you and present it at Reception for registration purposes

After Your Visit

All reports will be sent directly to your healthcare provider.

When requesting a copy of Diagnostic Imaging images, please allow a minimum of twenty-four hours advance notice. In order to obtain a copy of your imaging procedure on cd, a signed release form must be provided or signed at the time you pick up your cd from the receptionist or technologist.
