Announcement: Dr. Bobby Shayegan appointed to the role of Chief, Department of Surgery at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton
Dr. Bobby Shayegan has been appointed to the role of Chief, Department of Surgery, following a thorough search and recruitment process.
Dr. Shayegan received his MD from the University of Toronto in 1999 after moving to Ontario from B.C. in 1995. In 2004, Dr. Shayegan completed his residency in urology at the University of Toronto, followed by a comprehensive fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. In 2006, Dr. Shayegan joined the Active staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and the Division of Urology at McMaster University.
Dr. Shayegan has served in multiple national and local administrative roles. Nationally, Dr. Shayegan has served on executive positions at the Canadian Urologic Association and the Royal College Examination Committee. At the local level, Dr. Shayegan has served as the Head of the Division of Urology for the last eight years and the Deputy Chief of Surgery for the last 13 years.
Clinically, Dr. Shayegan’s practice is focused on prostate cancer and he is a nationally recognized expert in robotically-assisted surgery in urologic oncology.
Dr. Shayegan’s research spans the continuum from translational bench studies to clinical research in prostate cancer, with a large repository of peer reviewed published work in prostate cancer. Dr. Shayegan continues to be very active in this regard.
Dr. Shayegan is pleased to be continue on as part of the SJHH Leadership Team as the Chief of the Department of Surgery as of April 1, 2023.
