Support for 2SLGBTQ+ health care workers in light of Canada-wide protests
September 20, 2023
We are aware of an anti-trans hate group that will be leading protests across Canada, September 20, including one at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. We stand with our trans health care workers, patients, family members, partners and community members, especially trans youth, in rejecting anti-trans rhetoric. We do not support or condone hateful, misinformed or discriminatory statements or actions toward gender diverse individuals. ALL trans youth deserve access to gender-affirming health care. We are proud of the programs we have in place at St. Joe’s and St. Joe’s Youth Wellness Centre that provide affirming care to gender diverse individuals. We commit to providing the best care possible for equity-deserving individuals by taking actions to ensure everyone is treated with compassion, dignity and respect.
This upsetting display will impact 2SLGBTQ+ communities across Canada, including those in our St. Joe’s community. If you are a St. Joe’s health care worker impacted by this, supports are in place should you need them. Please visit the MyStJoes intranet, read the latest Need2Know, or ask your manager for more information.
