Help us say thanks!
The Canadian Nurses Association has designated this year’s theme, “A Voice to Lead – Health for All.” This theme recognizes the “power of change” nurses hold and the leadership role they play in our communities through the difference they make in the lives of patients and their families every day.
The following are just a few examples of the gratitude patients and their families feel towards the nurses that care for them during times of distress, moments of pain or discomfort, and pivotal life milestones. Share more examples on social media throughout the week by using the hashtag #VoiceToLead and check out the Hamilton Spectator’s Annual Nursing Week Supplement, which features our nurses.

"Kayla gave my daughter and son-in-law the focus, direction and support to get through a very long labour. Her kindness and wonderful disposition was so appreciated. She became part of our beautiful day and we are so very thankful for her and what she did to make our adventure memorable."
- Jane Grant-Henderson, family member
Kayla Mills, RN, Birthing Unit with Jane's daughter, Brittany
"All the nurses [from the Bariatric Program] were fantastic. They all went above and beyond to help everyone. I felt I was in very capable hands. They know the meaning of teamwork."
- Denise B., patient
"When faced with pain and vulnerability as a patient, Deb was there to smooth out any fears and concerns. There was a moment where I was really beside myself with pain. Deb caught on to this quickly and looked me straight in the eye and reminded me to take some slow deep breathes. Knowing she was going to be around on a consistent basis was reassuring and comforting."
- Amanda C., patient
Deborah Gibbons, RN, 6 Surgical, Gastrointestinal
"I don’t know how much the staff realized it, but they really did become like my family. Having a consistent nurse every single day was probably one of the biggest things that helped me in recovery. She really could see the signs of me slipping again every time that happened or when I was switching medications. That really helped at the end of the day."
-Patient treated at West 5th campus
"Jackie and Shana prepped me for surgery. They scored an A+. They were awesome at relaxing me and for putting up with hubby who likes to joke a lot!"
- Susan L., patient
Shana Berryman, RN, and Jacqueline Jarusauskas, RN, Day Surgery Unit
