From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Our new statue of St. Joseph at the West 5th Campus
St. Joseph is now overlooking the West 5th Campus of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. A new statue of St. Joseph has been placed in the south-east, second floor outdoor alcove of the West 5th building. He holds the infant Jesus in his arms.
The Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton, in his blessing of the statue on Monday March 19 – the Feast Day of St. Joseph – drew a connection between the qualities of St. Joseph – “a caring person” – and those caring for patients every day at St. Joe’s:
“Good people, always looking forward to what can be done better to care for those who need improved health care.
This West 5th Campus is a very good example of such a visionary outlook – it is a bright and beautiful facility, staffed by people who are the best in their service – seeking every day to give dignity and to diminish the stigma, so improving the lives of those who suffer from mental illness.
From ordinary to extraordinary – you continue the work of the Sisters – and you reflect the good and saintly man who is St. Joseph. Thank you for all you do. As we bless this statue of St. Joseph, may you be blessed also.”
The placing of the statue was the long-time plan for the West 5th campus, which opened its doors to patients in 2014.
A special thank you to Aramark for generously donating the food and coffee to celebrate the placing of the new statue.
Prayer for Blessing of Statue by Most Reverend Bishop Douglas Crosby Lord Jesus, our brother, you showed your love for the sick by your concern for them. Help us to see you and serve you in the sick. Bless this statue of St. Joseph, a man with a common touch. May those who pass by it – especially those dedicated to helping and healing the sick – be guided in their labours, and reminded that from the ordinary comes the extraordinary. May the sick and those who care for them know the protection of St. Joseph, righteous man of God. Give them a greater share in your love. Reward them with the peace and joy of your Holy Spirit, And by the everlasting happiness of heaven. Lord Jesus, we praise you, for you are Lord for ever and ever. Amen |
