Provincial Day of the Mammogram
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this Wednesday, October 21st has been claimed as the Provincial Day of the Mammogram from Cancer Care Ontario. Women ages 50-54 are encouraged to book a mammogram because it is the age group with the largest amount of women that have not had a breast screening appointment.
“The average mammogram screening takes just five minutes to book and less than 10 minutes to complete,” said Dr. Linda Rabeneck of Cancer Care Ontario. “Finding breast cancer early means there’s a better chance of treating it successfully.”
In Hamilton, screening locations are located at:
- St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, 50 Charlton Ave. East (905-522-1155 ext. 32899);
- St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton - Women’s Health Centre, 2757 King St. East (905-573-7777 ext. 38309);
- Hamilton Health Sciences - Chedoke Screening Centre, 555 Sanatorium Rd. (905-389-0101);
- Juravinski Hospital, 711 Concession St. (905-389-0101 ext. 42497).
