The Mental Health and Addictions Program Skills Islands nursing education days are underway at St. Joes’ West 5th Campus during the month of September.

Hosted by the Nurse Educators of the Mental Health and Addictions Program in partnership with key staff stakeholders in current patient care initiatives at St. Joes, the Skills Islands provide staff nurses with education to ensure optimal safe patient care.

Each nurse receives a passport listing their itinerary for visiting each of the Skills Islands.  At each of the Islands nurses participate in Educational activities such as review of Code Blue response, use of Evacusleds for emergency evacuation of mobility impaired patients, Transfer of Accountability, and more.

In addition to the Islands, nurses are invited to attend the Marketplace at the Level 1 Atrium where educational opportunities continue as they have the opportunity to practice injections with Janssen Pharmaceuticals, review Safety Incident Reporting with Kim Robertson, and learn about how they can participate in Anti-Stigma Research with Sandra Moll.

As the journey takes off at St. Joe’s West 5th Campus our nurses will strengthen their skills and continue to provide the highest quality of care to our patients with compassion and respect.
