Dr. Deborah Cook Recognized as One of World’s Best Global Health Researcher
St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton's Critical Care physician, Dr. Deborah Cook, was awarded the prestigious 2022 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award. This award recognizes the world's most creative and accomplished health researchers that display extraordinary leadership paired with exceptional science.
Dr. Cook has led impactful clinical studies that include advanced life support and the prevention of ICU-acquired complications while addressing complex ethical challenges that have led to significant improvements for St. Joe's critically ill patients. Dr. Cook's internationally recognized and adopted '3 Wishes Project', piloted at St. Joe's, encourages patient care teams to improve end-of-life experiences by fulfilling the patients' final wishes. This honouring of patient lives leads to easing of family grief.
