Dr. Peter Bieling receives 2024 Canadian Psychological Association Award
Congratulations to Dr. Peter Bieling who has been recognized by his peers at the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) for his distinguished contributions to psychology as a profession.
Dr. Bieling has been instrumental to many initiatives at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton throughout his career:
- His expertise has helped build the clinical capacity and academic output of our nationally renowned, award-winning Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre and Mood Disorders Program.
- His participation in a highly competitive research fellowship led to the development of our unique Youth Wellness Centre that offers youth (ages 17-25) counselling, support, and navigation services, and focuses on creating a safe space for members of equity-deserving groups.
- He has been instrumental in developing our highly regarded, CPA-accredited clinical psychology residency program.
Dr. Bieling shares, “It’s been humbling to reflect on 25 years at St. Joes alongside receiving this award from CPA; I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to work at St. Joes alongside great mental health colleagues and cherish what we’ve built together. There’s also much left to do and I think St. Joes is a great place to build a career.”
Dr. Bieling is an active leader and contributor to the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University and in governance at the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists of Ontario. He has co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers, 4 books (one of which is considered the current gold standard for provision of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in group format), and 9 book chapters.
Dr. Bieling currently acts a Clinical Consultant at Ontario Structured Psychotherapy – West Region, delivered in partnership by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. Ontario Structured Psychotherapy delivers free Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for depression, anxiety, and related concerns to Ontarians 18+.
