Announcement: St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton president
Feb. 10, 2023 – Ms. Melissa Farrell will be leaving the position of President of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in mid-May and will take on the role of President and CEO at Halton Healthcare effective June 5, 2023.
Ms. Farrell is a dynamic leader, widely recognized for her collaborative approach and expertise in health system funding, quality improvement, partnership development and navigating
the provincial health landscape. She has been responsible for advancing an integrated vision for a holistic mission-oriented approach to care – focused on advancing the bundled care agenda (originally started at St. Joseph’s Health System and now part of the provincial funding approach) and Ontario Health Teams, launching innovative technology advancements and providing truly excellent care. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Ms. Farrell had a distinguished career largely focused in the public sector with her most recent role being Assistant Deputy Minister, Acute and Emergency Health Services for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Ms. Farrell led St. Joe’s through the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most tumultuous times in recent healthcare history. Her collaborative approach ensured that St. Joe’s worked closely with healthcare partners, city leaders, community and provincial organizations to make decisions that aligned with the mission of St. Joe’s to provide compassionate care for our community.
Ms. Farrell is currently a Board Member of the Ontario Hospital Association, and serves as Co-chair of Mental Health Partners, of the Ontario Health West Mental Health Table, and Chair for the Greater Hamilton Health Network. She is also a director of the Catholic Health Association of Ontario.
St. Joe’s is deeply grateful for Ms. Farrell’s contributions within the organization, and across the city, region and province.
An Interim President will be named in the coming weeks, and a search process for the new president will start immediately.
