Canada's Most Admired Corporate Cultures Award
July 2022
St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton has been recognized with Canada's Most Admired Corporate Culture Award by Waterstone Human Capital, honouring St. Joe's commitment to compassionate care and innovation.
"Each and every member of the St. Joe's community contribute to our organization's culture," said Melissa Farrell, President of St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. "We lift one another through challenges, and together we celebrate our shared successes."
Our Mission is Living the Legacy: Compassionate Care. Faith. Discovery.
That Mission is inspired by our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and our people share the core belief in their values: that it is an honour to serve – and to ensure that everyone has access to compassionate, high-quality care.
When Sisters of St. Joseph's arrived in Hamilton in 1852, they began to work on behalf of the dear neighbour; all residents of the city. With the onset of a cholera epidemic, the Sister's healthcare mission began in earnest. Working in railway sheds near the Hamilton harbour, they risked their lives to care for the sick and dying victims of the deadly disease. This continues today with our healthcare workers in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are committed to integrating social concerns with our business of providing healthcare services to make a positive difference with our people, patients, their families, and our community.
St. Joe's staff volunteer to support a number of causes including: the United Way Campaign, Hamilton Food Share, local shelters, mental health in Indigenous communities, Psychiatry Elves that provide holiday gifts to psychiatry patients, Three Wishes Project for dying patients; toy drives; and volunteering with the St. Joseph's Foundation.
Grounded by our philosophy to improve the patient experience, we have been privileged to support the Department of Health in Nunavut to build local healthcare capacity through sustainable partnerships and solutions since 2012. Additionally, we have worked worldwide to build healthcare capacity in the developing world for the past twenty years. This work is an extension of our Mission, and we are proud of the work we have done in Russia, Yemen, Israel, Dominica and, projects in Haiti, Guyana and Uganda.
"This award not only recognizes our passion for delivering high-quality, compassionate care but our commitment to one another," said Dr. Judy Hunter (PhD), Vice President of People, Culture and Diversity. "Congratulations to all healthcare workers on making St. Joe's a place where we can care, learn and grow."
The Sisters of St. Joseph's long tradition of dedication and compassionate care inspires our efforts – to serve those who are vulnerable and to nurture our community in partnership with our neighbours.
