Statement on act of violence towards Muslim Canadian family in London, Ontario
Many of us are thinking about the recent act of violence in London, Ontario that has taken the lives of four members of a Muslim Canadian family and left the fifth seriously injured.
As a community of healthcare workers of many faiths and ethnicities, St. Joe’s is grieving alongside the Muslim community in London and across Canada. We condemn and denounce racism, prejudice and discrimination in all forms, and stand together against Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism, along with all forms of hatred and bigotry.
St. Joe’s embraces the values of Dignity, Respect, Justice and Responsibility. We must ensure that we live these values and that our care environments are safe spaces for everyone. We are committed to doing better, and to building an inclusive, equitable and fair healthcare system and community.
I encourage everyone to pause and recognize the magnitude of this tragedy, and reach out to those that will be impacted. Please continue to take care of yourselves and one another, and utilize the Mental Health Supports when you need it.
I extend my condolences to all community members affected by this tragedy.
