St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton declares outbreak on dialysis unit at Charlton campus
In consultation with Hamilton Public Health Services, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 on the dialysis unit of its Charlton campus after three patients tested positive for the virus.
The patients are now in isolation and following Public Health safety guidelines. St. Joe’s has processes to safely provide dialysis for patients who test positive for COVID-19.
Contact tracing is taking place, and all patients and staff within the Charlton hemodialysis units are being tested for COVID-19.
The dialysis unit at St. Joe’s Charlton campus remains a safe place for patients to receive their regularly scheduled care and treatment.
In addition to actively screening patients and staff for COVID-19, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, the unit is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, including in between treatments.
Additionally, physical distancing measures and barriers are in place in waiting areas and treatment spaces.
Hamilton Public Health, St. Joe's Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and Occupational Health and Safety Departments are monitoring the situation closely.
