Racism remains a problem all around us that we must solve together
From the Office of the President, Melissa Farrell
On behalf of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, I want to express our pain and sadness at the acts of racism and violence occurring in North America.
Racism exists today, embedded in many structures of our society. It is time to end that, to stand up together and work together to create change. Racism cannot be tolerated. As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said to Canadians this week: “The status quo, where people face violence because of the colour of their skin, is unacceptable.”
St. Joe’s embraces the values of Dignity, Respect, Justice and Responsibility. We must ensure that we live those values, and aspire to build an equitable and diverse healthcare system and community. I pledge to you to work toward that goal, and ask that you hold our St. Joe’s leadership accountable for making progress. Everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and respected.
