St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton can confirm Hamilton Public Health’s news release that a healthcare worker who is a dialysis nurse at our Hospital tested positive for COVID-19. The employee worked their last shift on Friday, March 20th, in the dialysis unit at the Charlton Campus.
On Thursday, March 19th, the employee also provided dialysis care at Hamilton Health Sciences’ (HHS) General Hospital. As per clinical care protocols for dialysis, the employee wore personal protective equipment including a face shield, procedure mask and gloves while providing care. This helps to protect both patients and staff from transfer of infections. The employee did not have symptoms at work.
The employee was at home when they began experiencing symptoms on Saturday, March 21st. On Sunday, March 22nd, they informed SJHH from home that they were experiencing symptoms and were told to stay home, and not return to work. The employee was tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 25th and a positive result was confirmed the same evening. The employee is currently experiencing mild symptoms and is in self-isolation at home.
Collaboratively, Hamilton Public Health, Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton are contacting all patients, staff, physicians and volunteers who may have had direct contact with this individual and will ensure they are advised of the public health measures they must take.
Our Hospital remains committed to protecting the health of our staff, physicians, patients and the community we are honoured to serve. To learn more about how St. Joe’s is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic visit www.stjoes.ca/coronavirus
