Monthly feature: Ms. Bernice King and Dr. Zahira Khalid, 2019 Mission Legacy Award winners
Late November we celebrated the 2019 Mission Legacy Award ceremony at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. The Mission Legacy Award recognizes key individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to contribute to the legacy and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, St. Joseph's Health System, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and its Foundation.
Each month we will feature a few of the award recipients to share a bit more about how they have made meaningful contributions throughout their time with our health care organization.
This month we feature
Ms. Bernice King: Bernice King has displayed an immense level of devotion to her position as Chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council, bringing the patient voice and perspective to the governance of St. Joseph’s. As a volunteer, her time commitment has been selfless. An advocate for patient-centred care, her even handed approach has gone beyond St. Joe’s to the provincial level. Bernice is a true champion of quality health care for all.
Dr. Zahira Khalid: As a General Internist Dr. Zahira Khalid provides not only exceptional care to patients, but works to improve the skills of the inter-disciplinary team she leads, running weekly Code Blue simulations and conducting procedural training. Her compassionate talents can be found beyond St. Joe’s, at the Good Shepherd’s Shelter Health Network, and in Uganda where she assisted in the development of a nursing school.
