The Reciprocal Effect of Working as a Team Player
“Prioritizing wellness on our unit is important because it can become hectic with the patient volume and unpredictable environment. Simple things such as taking my breaks, eating on time, and planning healthy meals are ways I practice self-care.
One of the best ways to promote wellness on our unit is by working as a team player. Checking in with coworkers, offering to help, and sharing each other’s load, creates an environment of support. This helps everyone’s mental wellness which ultimately leads to better patient care.
When you do this, it creates a reciprocal effect. The people you help are less likely to be burnt out. They have the energy and motivation to do the same for you and others, which creates a culture of teamwork.”
