Remembrance Day: Three veterans who chose St. Joe's as a way to continue serving others
Over the last 127 years, many veterans chose St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton as a way to continue serving others. This post recognizes three of the people who helped build St. Joe's reputation for compassion and innovation.

Awarded Albert Medal in 1948 (British Award for saving a life) and the George Cross Second highest award from the U.K. for an act of the greatest heroism in 1972
Dr. F.B. Bowman
Major -- In charge of Canadian Laboratory, commanded Second Reserve, WWI
Responsible for identifying a strain of trench mouth
Served as Major Commander Field Hygiene Section, WWII
Military Missionary in the Philippines
General Surgeon at St. Joseph’s Hospital 1920-1976
Dr. Bowman was trained to administer insulin after Sir Frederick Banting's discovery in 1923

Commanding Officer Canadian Forces Hospital in Kingston, ON
Officer of the Order of the British Empire OBE
Canadian Medical Officer in Command of the 15th Canadian Field Ambulance of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division
Served as a doctor until the war ended
