PTSD: Work-Related Condition in Manitoba
For the first time ever, beginning January 1, 2016, the province of Manitoba will see Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a work-related condition unless otherwise stated. Under new legislation, companies are to give people covered by the workplace compensation board better access to PTSD care.
St. Joe’s psychology expert, Dr. Margaret McKinnon is one of three experts interviewed by CBC commenting on the topic of PTSD in the workplace. Dr. McKinnon agrees with the legislation in having a broader scope of occupations that would qualify. She even goes a step further stating, “I think this legislation can lead the way in this country.”
