Psychiatrist at St. Joe’s Lands a Spot in the Louvre
St. Joseph’s Psychiatrist and McMaster Associate of Psychiatry Professor, Dr. Sarah Garside, had her first oil painting displayed as an exhibit at the world famous art museum, the Louvre. Dr. Garside recently returned from Paris after her oil painting “Orchidesque” hung in the Louvre from December 17th to December 20th as a part of an art exhibit organized by the French National Society of Fine Arts.
Dr. Garside has been painting since she was 14 years old, and she painted to pay her way through university. Five years ago she was involved in a major car crash resulting in severe head injury, and that is when she picked up a paintbrush again as a part of her recovery with Hamilton artist Audrey Traini. It was Audrey who sent Dr. Garside’s painting to a worldwide exhibit where she was selected as one of ten people to have their work showcased in the Louvre.
Dr. Garside’s painting is now priced at $2500 after being in the Louvre, but she might not want to put it up for sale. She states, "Every time I see it I just say to myself 'Wow, I can't believe I did that.'"
