COVID-19 Update
Please plan to attend your appointment, procedure or surgery as scheduled unless you are otherwise notified. During the pandemic, the hospital may be required to prioritize emergency and urgent cases, which may result in a change to your appointment. If this is the case, you will be contacted by a member of your care team. As always, our goal is to continue serving our community by providing quality hospital services for as long as it is safe and appropriate to do so during the pandemic.

What this program does...
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is responsible for the thoracic surgery needs of roughly 1.8 million residents living in the Hamilton, Niagara, Burlington, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk communities. Growing rapidly, the Chest Program at SJHH is becoming one of the largest programs practicing complex thoracic surgery in Canada. Within the Chest Program, the Lung Diagnostic Assessment Program (LDAP), a combined collaboration between St. Joe’s and the Niagara Health System (NHS) for timely assessment and treatment of patients with lung cancer, is the largest service of its kind in Ontario.
How this program helps...
Within this program, The Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health (FIRH) is a vital regional referral centre for respiratory medicine providing inpatient and ambulatory care as well as centralized pulmonary diagnostic testing for the Hospital. FIRH is an internationally recognized leader in academic and research programs. The Chest Program also provides residency programs of choice for medical learners in Respirology, Thoracic Surgery and Head, Neck & ENT surgery.
