SJHH / Health Services/ Obstetric Medicine and Postpartum Vascular Clinics

Obstetric Medicine and Postpartum Vascular Clinics

What this program does...

We are pleased to share information about two new referral pathways (in addition to the OB Medicine Clinic at McMaster) that support the medical care of pregnant and postpartum individuals in Hamilton and the surrounding regions: the SJHH Obstetric Medicine (OBM) Clinic and the SJHH Postpartum Vascular (PPV) Clinic, both based at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. These clinics accept referrals from SJHH Obstetric providers, General Internists, Subspecialists, and Family Physicians and Midwives.

Obstetric Medicine Clinic
The OBM Clinic provides medical consultation for individuals who are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Staffed by General Internal Medicine specialists, we work in collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, and family physicians, to support the co-management of medical conditions in pregnancy from pre-conception through pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Postpartum Vascular Clinic
We also offer a Postpartum Vascular Clinic specifically for individuals who have experienced a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (e.g., gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, etc). These conditions carry increased risk for both short and long-term cardiovascular complications. Patients are typically seen 2-3 times between 6 weeks and 1 year postpartum, with a focus on early detection and management of long-term cardiovascular risk.
