This person does not require a COVID-19 test.

  • This person should isolate (stay home) for 24 hours from when the symptom started and not leave except for a medical emergency. Learn how to self-isolate.
  • After 24 hours, if their symptom is improving they can return to school/child care when they feel well enough to do so. They do not need to get tested.
  • After 24 hours, if the symptom persists, worsens, or they are developing new symptoms continue to stay home and talk to your doctor/health care provider for more advice, including if they need a COVID-19 test.

The COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centres in the Hamilton region are a partnership between Hamilton Public Health Services, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Hamilton Health Sciences, Hamilton Paramedic Service, McMaster Family Health Team, Hamilton Family Health Team, Hamilton Family Medicine (HFAM) and Good Shepherd Centres. 

As always, regardless of need for a potential COVID-19 test, if someone is very ill and in need of immediate care, they should go to the nearest Urgent Care Centre, Emergency Department, or call 911.
