Environmentally Friendly Project
Many environmentally friendly measures are being used in the construction and design of the new West 5th Campus, as we strive to reach LEED Silver Certification:
-
providing adequate space for secure bicycle storage and shower facilities for staff
-
public transportation routes in close proximity to the building’s front entrance to help efforts to reduce the carbon footprint
-
preserving the mature grove of trees on the central and west portions of the Campus with over 500 new trees planted, which will be native and drought resistant species
-
minimizing water pollution by designing and constructing an extensive Storm Water Management system
-
reducing the indoor water use of the facility by over 20% by installing highly efficient plumbing fixtures like low-flush toilets, faucets and showers
-
using of low emitting materials during construction to ensure improved indoor environmental quality for construction completion
-
minimizing an increase in building heat from the sun by facing the building east-west orientation and installing a PVC roof to reduce “heat island” effect
-
diverting up to 90% of construction waste from the landfill by implementing a recycling plan and using regional materials
