Help us Build a Healing Home for the Mind & Body
Science has proven that the brain is just like any other organ: it too can suffer from disease and dysfunction that manifest in mental illnesses across a broad spectrum of severity: from anxiety to depression, eating disorders to bipolar disorder, addiction to schizophrenia. There is no longer any reason to make distinctions between medical illness and mental illness. Just as all of us will be affected by some sort of medical illness during our lifetime, it is also very likely that each and every one of us will be touched by mental illness.
That’s why, as the regional lead for mental health and addiction services in South Central Ontario,
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is building a new, comprehensive healthcare centre at the site of the former
Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital. The defining vision for the new facility is that it will not be a stand-alone site for mental healthcare. Rather, it will be a multidisciplinary facility designed to meet the varying needs of those living with the broadest spectrum of mental illnesses in our region, while at the same time serving the broader community with diagnostic imaging services
and a wide array of clinical programs.
By bringing together mental health, addiction services, leading-edge research, diagnostic services and broad-based medical care, we are moving into a new era in which mental illnesses and addiction are understood and treated like all other illnesses that we experience.
