World Thrombosis Day at St. Joe's
An information booth was set up at St. Joseph's Charlton Campus on Thursday, October 13th to celebrate World Thrombosis Day.
“Thrombosis” is when a blood clot forms inside a blood vessel, which can be harmless, but it can also be very dangerous. St. Joe's patient, Martin Lemieux, shares his experience with blood clots in his leg following an injury he sustained while shoveling snow.
Dr. Mark Crowther, Hematologist at St. Joseph's, was also present to share information about thrombosis, including risk factors and tips for prevention. Age plays a role and individuals aged 25 years or older are at increased risk of blood clots, and this increases even more after the age of 65 years.
