A Fond Farewell to Dr. David Higgins, President, St. Joseph's Healthcare
After 33 years of tremendous contributions and dedicated service across St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, we bid farewell to Dr. David Higgins.
"Living the legacy. Compassionate Care. Faith and Discovery. I've been privileged and very fortunate to have spent much of my professional life at an organization which holds these sentiments as its Mission.
I also strongly believe that we are fortunate to live in a country that strives to the principles of universal healthcare.
Over my years at St. Joe's, beginning as a research fellow, senior medical resident, staff physician, and finally as president, I've had the privilege of working with many of you as colleagues.
Sharing direct care of patients and working with you. The inspiration I've received from my colleagues and link to the Mission is really why I stayed.
I've learnt the complexity of what we do and the important contributes you all make in helping us deliver our Mission.
The care we are able to enjoy today was created by research of yesterday.
At St. Joe's we not only want to deliver high quality, complex care in state-of-the-art facilities, but most importantly, help educate and inspire health professionals of the future. We do world-class research at St. Joe's to find cures for tomorrow.
As you build our Vision for the future using advanced tools like Dovetale, we'll need to work ever closer with our patients and families.
I've had the chance to thank many, but not all of you for what you do every day.
So, this is my farewell and thanks to the Sisters, to my colleagues in clinical care, and to you: New leaders who will bring new energy and new ideas and with your help, and support, energy and passion are bound to further advance the Mission of St. Joseph's.
Thank you very much and goodbye."
