Best Practices Open House
When you share a success story, a new idea or even a challenging experience with your colleagues, you might catch them saying, “Aha! Why didn’t I think of that?” It is moments like these that encourage healthcare professionals to learn from one another and improve patient care. The 8th Annual Best Practices Open House event hosted at Charlton Campus welcomes all St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton staff, learners and our surrounding healthcare community to share best practices and learn from each other.
The Best Practices Open House is taking place on Friday, April 4th 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Frank Charles Miller Amphitheatre on Level 2 of the Juravinski Innovation Tower at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Charlton Campus.
The event will feature with a keynote presentation from Dr. Michael Gardam, Director of Community and Hospital Infection Control Association Canada, who is recognized for his work in employee engagement and patient safety. Dr. Gardam will share best practices about how healthcare organizations can leverage front line staff through engagement to improve patient safety. “This event is an opportunity to learn from one another and look towards the future so that we can provide better, more strategic patient care”, says Helen Kirkpatrick, Best Practices Spotlight Organization Coordinator, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
Dr. Gardam’s talk will be followed by a networking session and poster display to start conversations about healthcare best practices. Over 50 posters will be on display with representatives from units across St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s hospitals ranging from the People & Organization Effectiveness department to Kidney and Urinary Services. This year, Kidney and Urinary Services staff are submitting a poster about implementing strategies to support self-management for patients with chronic conditions by empowering our front-line staff with knowledge.
“Front line nursing staff have the opportunity to implement best practices into every day patient care,” explains Gail Burns, Manager, Kidney and Urinary Services. “Sharing best practices will help us evolve.”
This event is an excellent opportunity for our healthcare community to network, learn and share ideas that will help revolutionize patient care.
All posters will be on display from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.
