A Message to Our Patients from Dr. David Higgins
A message to our patients from Dr. David Higgins, President, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, January 15, 2014
As you know, on Wednesday, January 8th, St. Joe's suffered very serious water damage from a flood to very important areas of our hospital including our Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Post Anesthetic Room, Day Surgery Unit, Diagnostic Imaging Department, our Medical Device Reprocessing Department. Other key areas including hallways, elevators and offices were also affected. We have made huge progress in restoring full services due to the heroic efforts of our staff, but still have much work to do.
I apologize on behalf of St. Joe's for the anxiety and pressure you and your families must be experiencing at this time. You are uppermost in our mind as we work non-stop to repair the damage and ensure we can deliver your care promptly. As you will have seen from press reports we are bringing services back on stream on a daily basis. Our colleagues at Hamilton Health Sciences and across the whole health sector in our city and region have been truly remarkable in their response and stepping forward to ensure that our community can continue to receive urgent and emergency care.
For those of you waiting for surgery we will be contacting you and your physician as we increase our capacity to offer surgery and will be working hard to ensure all receive their care as soon as possible. We continue to provide up-to-the-minute updates on our website at www.stjoes.ca and through our Social Media feeds on Twitter and Facebook.
I sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding.
Dr. David Higgins
President
