Overview

Preparedness

St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and Hamilton Health Sciences are working with the City of Hamilton Department of Public Health and Social Services on Pandemic Influenza Preparedness.

A pandemic influenza outbreak is a worldwide outbreak of a new influenza virus that spreads rapidly around the world. Historically, pandemics occur every 30 to 40 years and infectious disease experts warn that a global influenza pandemic is overdue.

By working collaboratively, Hamilton and its hospitals are putting plans and mechanisms in place to help minimize serious illness, death and the disruption to clinical health services in the event that a pandemic outbreak occurs. The local plan is reflective of the Ontario Health Pandemic Influenza Plan (OHPIP) and consistent with the Federal Pandemic Influenza Plan. The Hamilton Emergency Services Network is providing financial support for the project.
