Overview
We are an academic Department of Surgery in the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences. St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is a teaching hospital with a difference. We have a long tradition of excellence in patient care and service to our community. This is our Catholic Hospital tradition. We will not forget why we came into being - It is an honour to serve the sick. Against this background we have developed into a University Hospital, with a strong commitment to education and research. We are proud of our heritage and accomplishments, but we are constantly working to improve.We are proud to be a "general" hospital in the sense that we serve our community's diverse health care needs. However, we have developed strong regional programs. Although "centre of excellence" is an over used phrase, many of our programs make us a legitimate regional centre of excellence. These areas include head and neck cancer surgery, pulmonary and esophageal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, renal transplantation, cancer reconstructive surgery, and total joint replacement.
