King Campus Projects
New Surgical Suites
Over the past year, St. Joseph's Healthcare's King Campus has engaged in several large redevelopment projects. The Surgery Centre located at St. Joseph's Healthcare's King Campus currently houses the Regional Eye Medicine & Surgery Program.
The number of Ontarians needing cataract and other eye surgery has more than doubled over the past decade. In order to meet the demand, our facility needed to be expanded. Two new operating suites have been constructed along with the expansion of our sterile processing area and pre/post recovery room. This expansion complements the two suites currently in place at the site. The surgical equipment and new surgical suites will allow patients from the entire region to receive optimal care in an ambulatory care setting.
In March 2010, the Peritoneal Dialysis Program was relocated from 25 Charlton to the Health for Older Adults area in the King Campus. This has been a great opportunity to expand the Kidney Urinary Program at this campus. In 2006, a large portion of the hemodialysis and all of the home dialysis program was brought to this site. The Peritoneal Dialysis Program is adjacent to the Hemodialysis area and offers patients ease of access to their treatment in a warm and comfortable setting.
A new triage area is underway for the Urgent Care Centre at the King Campus. The Urgent Care Centre is a high volume unit with almost 50,000 patients per year cared for, the second busiest in the city only to St. Josephs Healthcare Hamilton (Charlton Campus). The new changes will increase the level of privacy for the patients as well as assist with the patient flow through this high demand area.
