Regional Centre for Virology, Toxicology and Parasitology
The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a jointly owned program between St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and the Hamilton Health Science Corporation for delivery of laboratory medicine to the Hamilton hospitals.The program's mission is to provide leadership in all aspects of laboratory medicine including clinical service, education and research, through pursuit of excellence, encouragement of innovation and adherence to exemplary professional standards. This supports the missions of the participating hospitals and McMaster University.
The HRLMP employs approximately 700 staff who provide inpatient and regional centralized clinical laboratory services in the areas of clinical chemistry, immunology, hematology, microbiology, transfusion medicine, pathology, virology, cytology, immunohistochemistry, toxicology and parasitology. The Program operates the Laboratory Reference Center (LRC) and is a major provider of specialized and reference clinical laboratory services within Central South and beyond. The HRLMP provides specimen collection services to the local community at four hospitals.
St. Joseph's Healthcare also operates a Core Laboratory which provides service for routine rapid testing in clinical chemistry, hematology and coagulation. Anatomical Pathology, Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology services are also provided at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.
