Patient Information for a Over-night Sleep Study
The sleep specialist may recommend an over-night sleep test known as a polysomnogram to evaluate your sleep difficulties. This requires you to sleep in a specially equipped room, generally for one or two nights at St. Joseph's Healthcare.The Sleep Lab, an over-night facility is located on the fourth floor of the new Tower. This is a new expanded and fully computerized six bed lab staffed by experienced and caring registered polysomnographic technologists. None of the monitoring equipment is painful and the technologist is available to attend to your needs during the night.
Sleep Lab Appointment Information
You will be contacted by phone generally 2 weeks prior regarding an appointment. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY A WAITING PERIOD. Please let us know if there are any language or mobility difficulties.Any inquiries, or if you wish to reschedule or cancel your appointment should be made to Lisa at (905) 522-1155 ext. 34979 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.

Please Be Sure To Bring With You To The Sleep Lab:
- Your Health Card.
- A medication list as well as all current medications, especially those needed to be taken at night.
- A pair of pyjamas (a comfortable top and bottom e.g. track suit).
- A small blanket (the sleeping area tends to be a bit cool at night).
- Any personal items such as a favorite pillow, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, razor, shaver, ear plugs, etc.
- Any regular bed-time items such as a book, magazine, or a portable battery operated radio.
- Shower facilities may be available in the morning.
Some Helpful Hints Prior To Your Visit To The Sleep Lab:
- Try to minimize caffeinated beverages on the day of your study.
- Try to minimize or avoid taking naps on the day of your study.
- Please avoid hairspray, mousse or other hair products on the day of your study because it may interfere with the proper application of the sensors.
- If wearing nail colour please be aware that it will need to be removed on one or more fingers in order to ensure proper monitoring of oxygen levels.
