Maternal Child Family Centre
Each year, one percent of all children born in Canada are welcomed into the world through St. Joseph’s Maternal and Child Family Centre. This Centre encompasses a number of specialty programs including the birthing area, an antenatal and postpartum unit, the neonatal intensive care unit, and pediatrics unit.Located on two floors of St. Joseph’s Bishop Dowling wing, this centre provides the highest possible standard of care to mothers, newborns and children. The Centre proudly implements the recommendations of the World Health Organization’s Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, which involves providing full support for the breastfeeding family. Decisions about individual patient care are made with the patient, his/her family and a team of health care providers that may include nurses, obstetricians, midwives, pediatricians, family physicians, social workers and hospital administrators.
