The Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital is a new, 15-bed, purpose-built facility. Each patient has his/her own spacious room with state of the art monitoring equipment, computerized ventilator and a customized patient care documentation system.Regional programs include: Head and Neck, Thoracic, Vascular, Urology, and Renal surgery. Respiratory, Cardiac and Multi-system Failure patients are also managed in the Intensive Care UnitPatient care is well supported by specially trained nurses, medical specialists and other health professionals including respiratory technicians, pharmacists, dietitians, clerical staff, etc.
St. Joseph’s ICU is a very busy unit with very complex patients; approximately 1000 patients are admitted each year. The unit provides excellent opportunities for educational experience, including problem-solving skills and clinical decision-making ; while providing the best in caring service for the patients. Staff work closely with patients and families to provide a supportive and caring atmosphere during this stressful time.
