Skate-a-thon in Memory of Jordana Page Raises $4,000 for St. Joseph’s Healthcare!

Jordana Page loved sports. She loved children. Most of all, she loved being a mom to her son Jacob and wife to her husband Kevin. Sadly, Jordana passed away five years ago from a rare disease called Wegener’s Granulomatosis.
It’s a rare disorder that most commonly affects one’s kidneys, lungs and upper respiratory tract. It causes inflammation of the blood vessels and restricts blood flow to the body’s organs. The disease also produces a type of inflammatory tissue called granuloma which destroys normal tissue.

Early diagnosis and treatment may lead to a full recovery but Wegener's Granulomatosis can also be fatal. It was in Jordana’s case…despite the exceptional care she received at the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

On December 1st, 2007, near the 5th anniversary of Jordana’s passing, those close to Jordana wanted to do something to honour her memory while supporting the Hospital that cared for her during her last few months. With the assistance of numerous friends and family a Skate-a-thon was organized at The Wave Sports Centre in Burlington. The rules were simple, participants were asked to:
Over a hundred of Jordana’s friends, family members and area residents participated in the Skate-a-thon and over $4,000 was raised to support the leading edge research and compassionate patient care provided by St. Joseph’s world-renowned Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health.

We are honoured to remember Jordana and recognize the exceptional efforts of her friends and family. They have truly shown our community that sometimes, it’s the little things that count.
