The Father Sean O’Sullivan Research Centre (FSORC) offers a limited number of Studentship and Post-doctoral Fellowship awards through funding support provided by the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. Studentship Awards are intended to promote the development of research expertise in a scholarly setting leading to the award of a graduate or post-graduate degree i.e. MSc or PhD. Post-doctoral Fellowship Awards are intended to promote the development of independent investigators.
Research Administration at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton administers the award program and competition announcements are communicated at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, when on offer. Awards are available for Studentships and Post-doctoral Fellowships performing research under the supervision of an active St. Joseph's Healthcare investigator. Award recipients are selected in a competition based upon the merits of the submitted research proposals. Provisions on each award are governed by their individual policy and should be reviewed in detail prior to completing and submitting an application.

Anne and Neil McArthur Research Award
The Anne and Neil McArthur Research Award is presented annually and honours an internationally renowned researcher whose area of study is also a focus of research at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, in colloration with McMaster University. The award is funded by an endowment fund created by Anne and the late Neil McArthur, who are long time supporters of our research. It is hoped that this annual award ceremony will raise awareness of research activities at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and will encourage the brightest minds in Canada and throughout the world to pursue work areas of health research.

Dr. Deborah Cook
BIOSKETCH: DR. DEBORAH COOK, MD, FRCPC, MSc(Epid), CAHS, FRS
Deborah Cook practices critical care medicine at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton. At McMaster University, she is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Academic Chair of Critical Care Medicine. Her multi-method multi-disciplinary research interests include life support technology, risk factors for critical illness, prevention of ICU-acquired complications, end-of-life choices, and research ethics. Her methodologic work has helped to improve the design, implementation and reporting of randomized trials and systematic reviews. Supported by a Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation in Critical Care, Dr. Cook has published over 500 peer-review articles and has supervised many research trainees and junior academic faculty. From 2000-2008, she was Chair of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group, launching the most ICU productive research consortium in the world. Dr. Cook has received numerous local, national and international awards for her clinical, educational and research excellence.
